Michellesmom- I have a 2 and half yr old that was just diagnosed with Autism. It is not too soon for your daughter to be looked at. My ped told me that they can diagnose children as early as 9 mths old. Docs make me mad. For a parent to express concerns about their child is the most difficult thing to do, therefore, if a parent does, the doc should LISTEN!! Put your foot down and make your doctor listen to you. The parents always no know best.My son zones out into his own world quite often and is hard to get his attention. He is getting better but there is a lot of times when he won’t even respond to his own name. Does you daughter at least use her words in the content? Every child with autism is differant and have differant facinations. Not saying yours is, but all the red flags for autism (in my opinion), every child normal or not, does at one point in their life. It’s just a matter if they grow out of it and if they do a lot of the flags at the same time.

To those of you who believe that vaccines may have a link to autism. I 100% aggree with you. I’ve seen it myself. My son was totally fine and developing normally right until the night of his mmr. That night our world turned upside down. He had a very bad reaction, he was covered in head to toe in a a swollen red rash. The rash was so bad it was even in his ears and on his genitles. That night he’d wake up screamming and kicking his walls. The following day, he developed a facination with spinning wheels. Everything that had wheels in my house, was turned upside down and spinning. He started flicking his wrist, lost eye contact, lost his words, started screeching, huge temper tantrums, woke up every night screamming and kicking, developed nasty diariha, which was almost everyday, and loved pound everything with his fists. The list is endless. All this flags were totally and completey none existend till the night and day after his mmr. I makes me mad that when parents see what I have just described, how the can the government deny a link? It makes me really mad. Doctors say that babies ammune systems aren’t fully developed until their 2yrs old. Even if their perfectly healthy. And every babies body is differant and will handle the vaccines differantly. So why is the government trying force vaccines on babies? Why not wait till they are older to vaccinate? Plus, they make the vaccine for a one size fits all senario. I think it is bull. It isn’t right.

Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Having a bad week. I recieved the write up my sons diagnosis a few days ago and some of the things the physcologist said made me mad.

Hailey has started a new dilema. We think it is anxiety. When ever we have to leave the house like to go anywhere, she freaks out. The warning signs started at school, now it’s going on everywhere but at home. At home she is kinda boring. Has anyone heard of very safe meds. for anxiety in a young child? I hate to give her meds., not to mention holding her down and restraining her, then pinch her nose and cheeks at the same time through her screams of fear. And straddleing her with arms at her side is a must. I really believe we are entering into a stage of real anxiety here.

Hi there, I want to agree that vaccines are inked to Autism. My son seemed absolutely fine. Then he had his MMR triple vaccines and spent the night and following day in a fever filled stupor. After that he was never the same. He now has a diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome. However, I do not believe that the vaccinnes bring on autism by themselves. I believe that there is a genetic disposition or sensitivity to it – for example my son had an unusual personality, though no autistic type problems before the vaccine. The vaccines are stored in mercury – but then our whole environment is becoming increasingly polluted by mercury, other heavy metals and toxins. I believe that it is these which bring out or express the genes or personality which has a predisposes the child to autism or gives them a higher sensitivity to the pollutants. There is hope though – my son was severely affected: after attending several schools with no success he was homeschooled and then received a statutory assessmet following his diagnosis. His assessment results and special needs statement outlined severe needs and fifficulties he had and he was then placed in a special school with 100% one-to-one teaching in a classroom all by himself. I read up alot of research done by Harvaard researchers into the chemical effects involved in the biology of Autism and then changed my child’s diet accordingly – I put him on a gluten-free, cassein/dairy-free, high-protein, low-salicylate diet, flavour/colour-free diet. I also started him on high levels of vitamin supplements (such as magnesium, zinc, multi-vits, vitamin C, B6, B12, D, fish oil) and also enzymes. I have kept him on this diet and he has improved so greatly that he is now about to enter a normal fee-paying school, has plenty of friends, no behavioural problems, few social problems, can be a normal member of a class, and has is studying for his A-levels though he is only 12. I really believe that everyone should try this diet. You will be amazed. Feel free to email me about it and I will be happy to give you details. The science behind is based on the view that autistic children develop damaged intestines which are unable to absorb nutrients and detoxify – causing a build up of toxins in the brain. The intestines must b allowed a chance to heal, and the child needs a special diet.

I had my daughter go through every test out there, from brain scans, sleep tests, and alot of blood tests. She also had the genetics tested all were negative. I do believe that her exposure to a lead level of 62.4 has caused all of the Autistic problems. We of course put her through chelation and it removed the lead but it never brought our baby back. I do believe that vaccines can cause many problems I am not saying don’t get them I am saying spread them out. You need these to enter school but lets face it that means you have 4-5 yrs to get the ones that they need. By the way my father lived with polio, not easy but he could walk and talk and use the bathroom. He also had 6 children and did a wonderful job. My daughter doesn’t talk and is not potty-trained at the age of 6. They tell us that the window of speech is closing soon. I am 7 weeks pregnant and this baby will get shots just not so many at once. It’s amazing how cooperative doctors are about shots after one child gets Autism, why not before? I pray for my little girl often so that some day she will speak and use the potty especially before puberty. As far as fragile x goes, she was tested but negative results. The only problem with not finding a definate cause is there is no cure or proper treatment to her disibilaty. Check back here soon Take care all!

My son is hypo rather then hyper -only his hands are hyper it seems. He is calm, placid, in his own world. Yet his hands never stop – making things, fiddling, destructing, collecting, poking etc.

I want to first say that my heart goes out to all you woman who has a child that is dealing with autism. I’ll pray for you!!

I’m somewhat confused about the whole link of the MMR vaccine and autism. Is the MMR vaccine a new vaccine? My son just turned five months and I know I have plently of time before he gets the MMR vaccine but I want to be well educated on EVERYTHING possible. He has a doctor’s appt on Tuesday and I’ll ask his doctor about it but I still would like to hear some in sight from you ladies.
I hope I didnt offend anyone. I’m NOT saying the vaccines is or isnt link to autism…because I DONT know. Does the benefit of the vaccine OUTWEIGH the risk?! That’s how I’ll look at it.

This is the way I tend to view it: If you don’t get a vaccine your child is extremely unlikely to contract the diseases they immunizes against. However, if ALL or large numbers of children were not immunized then there would be a chance of the diseases returning to our societies. If you focus solely on the best interests of your child then you would not get your child vaccinated. However, if you focus also on a sense of duty to society and an awareness that you might influence a wider trend towards not vaccinating (highly unlikely if you don’t tell everyone) by choosing not to vaccinate, then you would get your child vaccinated. I believe there is a very real risk of autism resulting from vaccination. I believe vaccination massively increases the risk of autism. My number one concern is my child, not society. Selfish though it may be, I shall not immunize my next child because I believe the risk of contracting one of the diseases vaccines immunize against is far less than the risk of developing autism. So long as the majority of the population continue to vaccinate these diseases are highly unlikely to return to society. It is just a pity that the government will not store vaccines in a substance other than mercury (perfectly possible, but more costly) and therefore we could all be safely vaccinated.

I personally dont believe in the link to the shots and autism, esp since some who have autism didnt get vacs. There was a mom on here a year or so ago that knew a friend who had a son who had his vacs and got autism, she didnt vaccinate the twins who came later and one still was dx with autism. My boys had all the shots. πŸ™‚ My son showed signs of problems related to his autism long before the vac was even given. His blank stares go back to when he was just a couple weeks old. I believe autism is already in your system from birth and the shots bring out what is already there. If you dont vac and you are predisposed or at risk it will show up at some point still, even if you dont vaccinate. Thats just my opinion. (())
