The most recent study on this subject shows that toddlers are up to five times safer if they remain rear-facing until age two. Turning baby’s car seat around isn’t a milestone to rush on. It’s actually a step down in safety, so don’t be in a hurry to make the big switch. Car seats are designed to absorb some crash forces and spread remaining crash forces over a larger area of the body. For adults, seat belts distribute force to the strongest parts of the body, the hips and shoulders. Infants don’t have many body parts that are strong enough to withstand crash forces, so the rear-facing car seat distributes the crash force along the entire back, neck and head, putting less stress on any one part of the body. The infant’s head, which is large and heavy for a still delicate neck to support, is also better supported with a rear-facing car seat. The incidence of severe head and neck injuries for babies and toddlers is greatly reduced in rear-facing car seats.

Ugh… couldn’t take all of the CIO encouragement. I probably just opened myself up to a whole lot of bashing as well as an argument, but these babies are only 4 MONTHS OLD! For goodness sake!

I really haven’t been on this site much since i had my little girl. She is now 4 months old. To be honest i cant believe i have made it so long. While i was pregnant i wanted to be able to bf but had so much pain and trouble with my first i didnt think id be able to. Well now i have done it for 4 months exclusively. Shes never had a bottle and i have never pumped. However now a days people act like its crazy or somthing to bf altho that is what are bodies are made to do. I feel the presure everywhere i go. Dh family asking me when i will quit etc. Its very aggravating.

You can also try a tea that you can pick up at Health Food Stores Called Mother’s Milk Tea. It actually tastes really good too. I liked it. I still have some if anyone is interested in trying it out.

styx, i had the same question yesterday! someone mentioned drinking a tall glass of ice cold water right before and that worked wonders for me! i also tried to distract myself because i think i was concentrating too hard on having the let down that it wasnt happening

oh god bri, that brings back toe curling, tongue biting, memories, Delaney wasn’t clipped until 4 weeks!! besides the cracked, bleeding nipples, i had mastitis, and low supply from her not latching properly. i am so glad we worked through everything and have such a great nursing relationship because of it, and i am proud to say through all of that she has never had a drop of formula!! i am so confidant that knowing what i know now, that next time we will get off to a much better start!

Do you not run out of milk? I always assumed you did as the midwives have said to feed on one side and make sure it is ’empty’ before moving to the other side. Did they just mean until your boobs feel soft?

Thanks mandarae but seriously my supply disappeared. I will continue to nurse on demand and comfort nurse but I don’t think my supply will rebound. I can tell by her behavior if the milk is flowing or not.I’m only producing enough for about 3 good feeds a day. Its also hard to keep her latched when she’s not getting anything cause she gets really upset. Sigh at this point my supply is working against my hormones and unfortunately my hormones have switched gears from nourishing a baby to growing one.

mountainmomma- The disinterest in nursing is the big cue. Keep giving milk in a cup but give other things like cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese etc. Juice and water to keep hydrated too. Some kids aren’t milk drinkers. There are lots of foods that you can give that are high in calcium- broccoli for instance. Feed her a healthy diet with a range of foods and things should be good. My son has decided that he wants to nurse once or twice during the day and the same at night…he has no desire to nurse before bed (that just started a few days ago) so I cuddle him and read a book and he goes to bed. Just take the process slowly. Sounds like your little one is ready to start the process.
