Precious: this can also be a sign of two scary thungs, so get checked out. Pituitary tumors or mis-regulation can cause continued (or new… did you dry up and now it’s back?) or thyroid issues. My aunt, whose youngest is SEVENTEEN still makes milk somewhat randomly, and during the BD ‘happy ending.’ They MRI’d (or CT?) for the tumor, nadda. It’s def her thyroid and she’s on ‘chemical metabolism’ now. Still gets milk production, though.

horseygal – You just made me laugh. I’m imagining you pumping in a ‘school’ closet. HAHA! Like being shoved in a locker. Then playing secret agent as your slipping from corner to corner down the school hallway with a theme song. HAHA! Sorry you had to go back today. I cried the first month leaving Kekoa at school. I’m thrilled I don’t have to do that anymore.

Hello All…I just found out I am PG. I had a breast reduction a few years ago. Has anyone else been able to breastfeed post reduction? Thanks…

Bri – I’m so excited! My son actually latched on today..and it was a good latch! BUT he only latched onto my left breast…this is the only one that he would latch onto before (even tho it was a bad latch, and he would always pinch my nipple)…so hopefully he will consistently get a good latch on the left breast, and eventually take to the right one too. I’m going to get the lansinoh latch assist…the nipple on the right boob is not flat or inverted…but it is flatter than the left nipple that he will sometimes take.

Thank you for the encouragement earlier!

As for sleeping, I was prepared to have a non-sleeper since I read that BF babies slept shorter periods of time but my son started sleeping through the night in his own room at 10 weeks (8pm to 7am). However, since I pumped so much at the time and had a large freezer supply, my husband always gave him a bottle of expressed BM at night before bed. With the bottle he probably took more than he probably would have nursing to sleep so its possible that that made him content longer through the night. If you are desperate, I would try that before formula. At the same time though, I always pumped before bed and woke up to pump in the middle of the night for a bottle and to maintain supply so its a trade-off. Even if the baby is sleeping if you want to maintain supply, you probably wont be!

esther804-try undressing your baby, skin to skin, notice him falling asleep tickle his feet, mess with his hands find something that bugs him, dont let him get to warm. feed on demand, dont go longer than 3 hrs , my baby was newborn she was soo sleepy jaundiced, i had to wake her to eat every 2 hrs until she gained back her weight it worked.

Doeysgirl I wouldn’t panic about the sterilising too much as baby is fine and to be honest… what did they do in the old days?!! They do suggest however that you sterilise the pump cups and bottles before every use, I think up to the age of 6 months or more. Washing in dishwashing detergent and water is good to do first, but to really kill any other germs you can get sterilising tablets to make up in water (you can get the tablets from a pharmacy and it takes at least 20 mins for them to sterilise your equipment once you make it up in water… so I would usually leave equipment in the solution until needed) or you can get microwave sterilisers which only take a few minutes to use (you still wash in soapy water first) and are made of plastic – you put some water in the bottom and the bottles, etc on top, and after a few minutes in the microwave the equipment is steam sterilised and very very hot! Good luck! 🙂

Oh ladies what a terrible habit I have started! My DD will only fall asleep at night by nursing herself to sleep! is it too late to break this habit? I think that if I give her a few nights of crying it out she’ll eventually have to fall asleep right? Only problem is that hubby gets up at 4am so he can’t afford to miss any sleep. If snybody has another suggestion I’d appreciate it!

lckyladyl – You both need to be treated. I would take my son(s) into the Ped and they would give him meds. I would then call my OB and she would send meds to my pharm for me to pick up. I agree, I don’t have time to go to too many appointments. My doctor didn’t need to see me. I would just call and say we have Thrush and got meds. Easy enough.

Hey ladies! Its been almost a year since I posted in the BF forum! My twins are 18 months old and my baby is 7 wks old. I BF the twins till they were a year and a week old… at that time I was 17 wks pregnant with my latest baby ;o) I think I have mastis (?) on my right breast… started out looking like a boil or something last week, but its started to get a little bigger and hurts when I am full. Anyone had this? My Dr just called me in some antibiotics without even checking it out. Anything I can do to help besides the pills??? Thanks for advice! (I think it was easier nursing twins than a singleton, and I never thought I would say something like that…. )
