wonder if any EBF moms out there have little ones that a really really long time without a bowel movement? stella is five weeks old and has now gone 9 days without pooping. she has tons of wet diapers and seems satisfied. i have tried tummy massage (she screams when i do it) bicycle, and even tried the rectal thermometer thing. she seems content most of the time, sometimes i can tell she is straining. she farts a lot, but nothing else. any advice? anyone else been here?

My dr says, ‘as long as they are healthy and gaining wait appropriately don’t worry about what comes out of them’ (unless it is blood of course)

lilli1317- yes its hard work, I decided to EXP because I had some latching issues and my LO was dropping weight and I was determined to EBF, so pumping was my next option. Either way the milk is expressed I’m just thankful I was able to EBF and she is able to benefit from it and many thanks to all the wonderful ladies giving there comments & support. 4months down 8more months to go!!! I’m just desperate to lose the extra 25lbs I’ve gained due to preganancy, with out comprimising my milk supply uuugghhh

Kickboxerbaby – The first thing you need to do is RELAX. Stressing out really ruins your supply. I am sure your body will make enough for your LO if you stop stressing it. If I were you I would rent some good movies & stay in and nurse nurse nurse!!!! Just let LO stay on the boob as long & often as possible. Cuddle him a lot, stare at him, sing to him. Relax & nurse. Everything will pick up. Good luck to you 🙂

didderty – That is really awesome! Good work getting her to latch on, I know how frustrating and painful it is to not have them latched on well if at all, so that is truly great that you guys got the good latch!

Pregowith5th – have you seen an LC? It could be the latch.

As for relacatating. It is really hard but can be done. If you don’t have a history of depression or anxiety then you can try Reglan. It can help. I would suggest pumping at every waking minute along with taking fenugreek (about 15 capsels a day) and drinking mother’s milk tea with blessed thistle and fenugreek. I would also start eating fermented oatmeal and sticky rice. Those things along with pumping should stimulate your breasts enough to start producing. I would then start latching baby on for as long as she will stay on. If afterwards she’s still hungry then you can supliment a little bit. Just enough to tie her over for an hour and then relatch her again. The more you stimulate your breasts the more you will make! It’s hard but worth it.

jacquecmsu – I’d wait. If your baby is five plus months then maybe but there is research that suggests that giving solids too early can cause gast. intest. problems, allergies, early diabetes, weight issues and many more problems. If would be safe just to wait. I know many of the Moms on the monthly pages give solids early but honestly it really shoudn’t. My Ped Office is adamant about no solids before six months. I am too. I’d wait longer if Baby lets me. It’s also a confusing time. You want to be sure that your baby is getting everything from you first and then add solids. When we did start at 7 months with my first son my doctor said only a tsp to 4 tsp at a time. Not very much at all. It’s all for practice. It’s not nutrition at all.

JessicaLynn21, I have six kids and 3 were conceived while BFing. Never done tandem nursing though of an older and newborn. Just doesn’t seem right to me to still nurse the older one when you have another littler one – but I’m not criticizing! Every mom makes her own choices about her situation!

Lawson- I have been taking it and the other day I was gone from home for about 9 hrs. I forgot the pills but I did notice my breast seemed fuller from not taking them but I started again and it’s back to normal. Ive been wondering if I should stop taking them because he is hungry more and I feel empty all the time.

TannersMommy33 – You baby is like mine. Alex will be 5 months next week and he’s over 21lbs. He was 20lbs at his 4 month appointment. Gotta love carrying that around all the time. Ugh! My achin’ back!!! HAHA!

In the begining you don’t want anything restricting your breasts while building supply. That’s why they say no underwire. It took me a long time to get used to that. But as they grow then it’s no problem. It’s also like sleeping on your tummy. It’s a no-no in the beginning but I do it anyways!

styx – Are you sure it was a period? I had a section and I bled, stopped, then bled again. It was anytime after I did something that was a little more then my tummy could bare. This went on for 2 months.
