Hello everyone! It’s been ages since I’ve commented in here but I have some questions. I’ve never had problems with Breastfeeding – it’s still going very well and Lola is 14 months (getting ready to be 15). So here’s the deal – she STILL nurses very frequently during the day and at night. For a while we had her cut down to only like once a night but then a few weeks ago – all of a sudden she wanted to nurse all night again. I LOVE nursing and am not ready to quit just yet but I feel like she’s just nursing too much for a 15 month old. Here’s where the problem comes in: She refuses to drink anything but breast milk and water! She won’t drink milk (i’ve tried a million times and tried warming it) and she won’t drink soy milk either. Any suggestions? I don’t have a set date for having her weaned or anything but 24 months is kind of my cut off…. so I kind of want to just get headed in the right direction. Thanks for any replies!

michelles–same thing happened with my LO. 9 days went by, so i called the dr. She said to call back if she never went in 2 more days. Sure enough almost immediately after i got off the phone she pooped! It’s only happened once for that long. But i did notice that since that incident she stopped going 1-2x a day and started going once every 2-3 days. I think it’s fine (and common with ebf babies) as long as they are peeing, and do seem content and not in pain or anything.

hey ladies ive been on here a while and most of you know me for having supply issues with my milk, anyway im about 75 percent breast with an occassional top up of formula. im sooo desperate to exclusively breast feed but all the tricks dont seem to be working…anyway would you guys consider taking anothers breastmilk if offered? our friends baby is 2 months old and the mum has wayyy over supply…dumps like litres a day!as for me id die to be able to have half the amount she does…do you think im getting desperate now? also the health issue, mums health etc, and of course her milk is appropriate for her 2 mth but my bubs is 5 months…nutrients value differ. which brings me to, if you ladies are freezing and using milk, how much l8r do you use the milk?? am i thinking too much??…id appreciate what you guys think:)

krpzz- Don’t be too concerned with how much your lo is getting. As long as lo is content after feeding and they are having the right amount of wet/dirty diapers.

Babies get good at nursing and some are better than others. Once they get the hang of it they may only nurse for 5-10 minutes. Also when they are going thru growth spurts they tend to nurse more frequently. It is tiring but it is what they are needing at that time and those marathons also keep your supply built up. The growth spurt nursing usually last about 3 days or so. Good luck :0)

Kickboxerbaby – Relax, there are many ways to help supply but stress is not one of them. A cheap and easy way that I’ve found works with most women is fermented oatmeal. I went from pumping 8oz in two sittings to 16oz and my sister went from 16oz in 3 to 26oz. It’s really easy too. You’ll want to buy the old fashion oats at the grocery, not quick oats. You’ll mix half cup with a half cup of water. Let it sit on the counter for at least 7hours and then eat it. Microwave it, add flavoring whatever. Do this twice daily. You should see a difference in a weekend and be fully up within a week. I would eat it morning and evening. It’s healthy for you and for some reason the fermenting process releases emzynes that help with supply. Good Luck! If that doesn’t work then contact your doctor. I was given Reglan to help which it did but I also couldn’t take it long because it did awful things to my body. Those with a history of anxiety or depression should stay away from it. There are other drugs as well. But, stay with the fenugreek and try the oatmeal. Also, with fenugreek, how much are you taking? You’ll need to take enough that your sweat smells like maple syrup. Try 4 caplets three times daily. It won’t hurt baby but you’ll need that much to build up supply. Let me know how it works!

I also used Medela Disposable Breastpads because they were thin and but caught all the milk. I tried the Avent ones since they are at the grocery and they were HUGE!! You could totally see them through the shirt. I’ve avoided reuseable ones because I’ve heard the harbor lots of bacteria and can cause Thrush. Granted I got it anyways but I would rather avoid it if I’m already prone to it.

I use the medela harmony manual pump and I love love love it I got it free from my hospital but it takes me no time to get what I need out of both breasts I have been using it for 3 weeks since my son was born but with pumps you just need to find what works for you I have giant boobs im only 110 pounds and im a 34E bra size so some pumps where too small for me and just didn’t work so its a trial and error thing I guess so talk to your lactation consultant before you go out and buy one…….one another note im soooo mad a family member has been trying to talk me out of breast feeding actually all of them on both sides they all think its weird…..I don’t see why? but they hate it they have been really rude about it he’s 3 weeks old and they think he to old to be doing it now wth!! I don’t get it im just so upset they drink milk from a cows boobs ….why is it strange that a newborn is drink what its intended too????? no ones ever BF in my family I am on my own with this I plan on letting him wean himself off so if he’s almost 2 when that happens then fine but they flipped out on me when I siad that I just don’t understanding why they think its gross they make us feel like we are not welcome or I have to go hide in a bedroom everyfew hours when its time for him to eat……..

one step at a time – Many babies are gassy the first few weeks. It should pass soon. You can try gas drops if you’d like. It works for some and not others. I make sure to burp after every feeding. We also pump his legs when he’s fussy. It helps him toot. If he’s still really fussy at 1 month you may talk to your doctor about it. It could also be your diet but it’s probably just his tummy getting used to be in use.

Well, I’m sitting here eating my fermented oatmeal, topped with Breyers Waffle Cone ice cream. I have to say, the oatmeal isn’t so bad. The ice cream has caramel in it and isn’t meshing well with the oatmeal flavor. II think I want to toss this particular ice cream and just add some sugar or sweetener and something crunchy like granola to add some texture to this mushy blob. lol. It really does taste just like oatmeal…but I’m the most picky eater in the world and I definitely have a psychological block against eating old, soggy oatmeal. So I’m distracting myself with tv, nursing Zoey, and eating. Give it a try if your supply is low. I’m not sure if it’ll work for me yet but it’s not the worst thing in the world. Definitely worth it if it does.

So, yesterday they said they had to increase my baby to 5 oz a bottle. That means going from 16 oz while I am at work to 20oz! Man… it sure is hard to keep up with this demand. I sure wish it was easier to breastfeed and work…but it is sure worth it!

megs-at your next visit request another test. if you are eating yogurt you might get it cleared up and not have to take the antibiotic. even if it doesn’t work it would be worth a shot.

missviss – I don’t trust the pill since I got pregnant the first time on it. Best thing to ever happen to me though! But anyways, we just use condems. I’ve heard of women having great succes with the mini pill but it doesn’t have both hormones in it so it’s less effective. I’ve also heard of it effecting some women’s supply. Just go into it with care. If you notice a dip then I’d come off it. Oh and I’ve heard of some women getting their periods back while on it. That it jump started the cycle again. Good old fashion condems for me!!! Last time I didn’t get it back until 9 months so I’m pretty confident that I won’t have problems until then either.
