I am worried about my supply. My right side (which is usually much smaller than my left) will produce 1.5 oz tops. It can be 4 hours…1.5 oz. It can be 2 hours, I will get 0.5-1 oz. My left side will give anywhere from 2-3 oz. is this normal? What are you all doing to increase supply? I pump every 2 hours during the day, 3 hours at night. I pump 10-12/day.

AMY—- OMG! Yes Please help I am having the same issue. My baby is 22 months. He is soo in love with breastfeeding! He is only down to 1-2 feeding a night just because he does not wake up. I just do not know how to stop him he eat 3 times a day has snacks, juice, water, milk and still wants to nurse 6xs a day. Yes I am a stay at home mom.. but really I need to slow it down. We want to get pregnant 2010.
My main ? is how to stop the night nursing and the nap nursing? Thanks ladies.

Nich – I’m so sorry! My son started biting me after his top teeth came in. It was a rough two weeks on breaking that habit. Good Luck! As for white gums, teething can take weeks or months so they might be hurting but not there yet or they could come up over night. My son has 6 teeth at the momment. He is drooling again and I’m sure the next set are going to be coming in any time. I don’t see white either but they are there. His gums are swollen.

BeckyC- Well I can see how you are very worried. You are correct that breast babies have loose stools. And I have had 2 babies that have never had rectal bleeding. However, my oldest daughter has had rectal bleeding this past year and I would recomend to you that you ask your peditrician to refer you to a pediatric gastrointerologist. They are experts in baby bums. Im sure you trust your ped, but I have been through a lot with my little girl and I have gotten the best results and answers from her specialists. I recomend that you wright down all the bloody bowel movements, and I know that this is going to sound grose, but take a picture if you can. My doc sent me home with a hemacult packet. I was to put the blood on a slide and bring it back to him so they could run tests and see where the blood was coming from. She ended up have to have a colonospopy. Which I’m sure your not going to have to do. But, if he is not straining to go poo. I would be concerned.

I have been breastfeeding for 3 months now. For the past 1-2 weeks, Wyatt has been really fussy while eating. He eats off my breast for a few minutes, then will start screaming til he is beet red and can barely breathe. Then he will eat a little bit more, and then scream again. Burping doesn’t help him. So I switch breasts, and that calms him down some, then he might start screaming again after a few minutes. I have no clue what the problem is!! I thought maybe he is not wanting to work hard to get milk out of my breast, so he will start screaming after my letdown stops. But I have also given him a bottle of expressed milk, and he will scream then too. The last 2 days have been a little better, with only a few meltdowns from Wyatt. But it makes me so sad to see him upset, when breastfeeding should comfort him!! I wonder if he has a sore throat and it hurts to swallow. Or if he wants to look around while eating, and can’t, so he starts screaming. Sorry this is so lengthy!! Just wondering if anyone has any input. Thanks!!

Also a question to the bf mom’s that pump. Do you think that 4-5 hours is too long to wait to pump while away. I am gone from home for a total of 6 hours, 3 nights out of the week, those nights I pump at the 3 hour mark.
Three other nights I go to class and am gone a total of 4-5 hours. I am in class for 3 hours and drive the other 1-2 hours. I always debate when I get out of class if I should just hurry home, or pump then drive home. I leave at 5:00pm and get out of class at 8:40, then I have a 30-45 min drive home.
The other problem is that two of these nights I have to turn around and then leave for work by 10:20.
I have some time management problems. I don’t want my supply to decrease, but I think that going home between work and school is important.
Any advice? Please respond to my profile.

funny its your breast, i thought it was YOUR choice. I can’t even believe he would have a problem with it! He should be GLAD you have chosen to bf, and i hate to tell you this but even if you do decide to pump, those first few days there isn’t a whole lot coming out. try making a hungry crying infant wait while you pump b/c he thinks it’s gross- that’s ludicrous! Those are the most precious valuable times you will have with your newborn, dont rob yourself of that experience.

Armymom if you have decided it isn’t the right time then you can stop. It won’t hurt him or anything. I have been letting mine sample alittle because my supply drops bad when AF comes and I wanted to make sure there was something that could help during those times but its only a few bites here and there and if I don’t have time or he doesn’t act like he needs it I don’t give it. I don’t want to really get active with food until after 6 months.

ok so i have a question. I really want to pump my breastmilk and give to baby with bottles. I dont want baby to breastfeed at all. Why do they say you should wait to do this until 7 weeks?!? There will be no nipple confusion if I only give baby bottles of breastmilk. So whats the big deal?

Yes, that seems to be it. The site suggests putting heat on it so I’ll try that. Thanks so much for finding that site for me!!!

Kym – That is good news. I’m glad you are able to continue. You know I never thought that I would become such an advocate of breastfeeding until I start and found out what others go through. You are doing a great job.
