Tiff – I’m so sorry you are going through such a rough patch. You know I never felt engorged either. I had to fight to even get milk. I totally under what you are going through. You have done a great job, 7 months is awesome. Just think another 5 and you won’t have to worry. After milk is added into the diet you can nurse when you want to and don’t if you and baby don’t feel like it. It isn’t the main source of nutrition. As for pumping. I hate pumping. It causes a lot of unneeded stress. Now that I don’t work and haven’t pumped in six weeks I feel relief. I know that I have supply for my son because he feeds when he wants and I don’t need to get a certain amount of milk every day. My only advice is try not to worry. You pump what you can. If you don’t pump enough, oh well. If you are like me, I hate formula, but there are worse things. Continue to feed as often as you can and pump what you can. If you add a little bit of formula in then think on the bright side…you are adding vitamin D and iron into the diet when your milk can’t. Stay possitive, honey! Good Luck!

anniemarie I have used distilled water and or some juice to mix some oatmeal if I needed the little bit of breastmilk I pumped for something else. If I use the water then I will usually add a spoonful of fruit to add some flavor.

kym & campimama: thank you Ladies!! I bought the malted milk and I’m going to start taking it tonight…. hopefully I can get my supply back up. I’ve been trying to pump more often at work for the past couple of days but that alone hasn’t helped. how long do you take it for? Oh and I figured I can take it with soy milk (just started drinking it) since I can’t drink cow’s milk so that’s why I asked about mixing it with water. Hopefully it won’t be too nasty!

I AM SO CONFUSED!!!!! I just had my morning pump and after being okay with the fact I will have to give LO formula I just pumped 9oz! What in the crap? Maybe my illness really did bring my supply down that low. I also had a couple beers last night. Maybe that helped? Who knows……. I have a strange body.

I wish miss mouse would pick a feeding schedule, she has my body so confused it doesnt know what to do!! one week she eats every two or three hour for 15 mins at a time one side only; then the next she eats every three to four hours but for 45 mins and uses both sides…my poor brain doesnt know if it should speed up and make more or slow down and make less!!!

Angel-baby – BF babies usually gain weight faster than FF babies inthe first 3 mos of their lives. My DD was 8lbs 2 oz, at 1 mo 9lb 9 oz, at 2 mo 11 lbs even

Sounds like comfort nursing, does he really eat intensely at night or just on and off using you as a paci. Maybe try offering a nighttime snack like yogurt or cottage cheese or something to fill him up longer. Are you pumping at all? My husband always gave a nighttime bottle of expressed and it always got him through the night.

I just wanted to chime in to say some bf’ing mothers hold onto the weight until after weaning. With my son I held on to 6 lbs. Now with my DD i’m -20 lbs prepregnancy weight.
