lilmama… The same thing happened to me when I was about 6 weeks postpartum. I thought I had finished bleeding, but then had it return for a few days then. It wasn’t a period for me, and if you’re exclusively breastfeeding it’s highly unlikely (but not impossible) that it is for you either. 🙂

I’m starting to become really discouraged. I know it’s not good because it doesn’t help the situation but I can’t help it. For days now I’ve been trying to up my supply and nothing. What used to take me 2 pumpings I know have to get in 5…if I’m lucky. My daughter is in a growth spurt and I can’t keep up. I don’t know what to do. I went to get the tea at my local health store and they were out. I’m eating oatmeal, drinking tons of water and pumping/nursing constantly. I’m pumping while nursing, double pumping and nothing seems to be working. Last night my daughter was really fussy because she tried to nurse and I think I had completely emptied myself. She was fussy for about 2.5 hours before falling asleep. She woke 3 times in the night and was better but I don’t know what to do. I have to go to the next town to get Fenugreek so I guess thats my next step. Does anyone know how long it takes our bodies to ‘get the hint’ ? I’m getting desperate. Thanks ladies. I really want this to work. 🙂

Cutie – We use good old fashion condems. We’re really busy so we don’t have much time. I also want to have another in the next two years so I didn’t want anything like an IUD that has to be ‘inserted’. Condems work for us.

newmumtob- im the same. i can pump about 5oz out of my left breast and only a few drops from my left but my babt will feed quite happily from it. how ever my right breast is about 3 cup sizes bigger than my left which is a pain when it comes to getting bras, iv just come to the conclusion it has more milk ducts in it. dont give up though. keep letting your baby feeding from it and your milk should increase. x

I try to pump once at night if LO goes down good since he will normally sleep 5-6 hrs but I can tell that my supply is low because he gets really fussy while eating and mad when it slows down. He also wants to nurse alot more during those times too. Its like if I don’t eat enough calories my milk drops, if I don’t drink enough my milk drops, and on top of that my milk drops when AF visits. Losing weight isn’t my first concern although I do hurt from being over weight and would like to get some of it off but I can’t without effecting my milk so thats why I have been looking into the domperidone again. When I do get the chance to pump I can normal get 1 oz per hour that he hasn’t eaten and being at night I am ok with that but when I have a drop I might get 2 oz after waiting 3 to almost 4 hrs from the last time he has nursed to me pumping. I am on my 4th child now and you would think I could milk like a cow but I have always struggled to keep a decent supply going.

Hi ladies I have a question concerning breastfeedind two babies.. My son is 16wks exactly tomorrow and he still eats all the time. I’m assuming its his reflux but he can eat every hr.. sometimes every 30 min.. I’m a SAHM so I nurse him on demand.. The lactation consultant says he’s what they call a hungry baby or cluster nurser. Well the thing is I’m about to adopt a baby boy he’s due Jan. 23 and I was thinking about nursing him also but one I don’t know if I can because the baby won’t get colostrum being that I won’t be giving birth to him and two how do I nurse when my 16wk old seems to never be off the boob.. Will I have enough for both or will I have to supplement at first?…Not sure how it all works.. I know women breastfeed twins but this seems a lil different because my newborn won’t be on the same schedule as my oldest…

amy: My baby would not latch at the beginning and the LC told me to have plenty of skin on skin contact with the baby and let the baby find the nipple as it is instinct for them. Take a bath and try nurse in the bath or lie on your bed with no top on and the baby in a nappy only. Dont force it and it will happen … eventually. YOu may have to be patient. I also tried a nipple shield and that worked well ( especially if bub is bottle fed now) but then you will need to wean to the breast from the shield which doesnt take long anyway. Good luck.

Andante-it could be teething, but I’d consult with a pediatrician before giving him anything. I heard orajel can close his throat passage and cause problems. What helped was teething rings, especially the ones you can cool in the fridge. They get to gnaw at it and help relieve the pain…also helps that he won’t use you as a teething toy.

Oh and i have mastitis which sucks. Emerson wont feed on that side after about a minute and im sure there is not much milk… I cant find the handle to my breast pump to try and unblock it myself…
I started on antibiotics yesterday as i was really sick so hopefully ive caught it early and dont get sicker. I wish the pain in my breast would go away.. I couldnt even wear a bra last night it hurt so bad and i wear my bra every minute unless im in the shower ( trying not to get too saggy boobs ha ha)

Pinkexecutioner – Congrats on your pregnancy and congrats on the choice to breastfeed. My biggest reccomendaion is to learn as much as you can. Read books and the how to’s online. But, no matter how much you read you probably still won’t be prepared. Use the lactation nurses at your hospital. Mine were awesome! Also, for some people it does hurt. I thought I was doing it wrong because it hurt and everyone said it didn’t. Well, for me it did. I got over it and now it doesn’t but the beginning is a lot of work. Don’t worry if your baby wants to eat every hour. That is just how new babies work. The first couple of months are the hardest but once the growth spurts start to slow down your baby will to. Oh and having a good support system is awesome. People to help you out and let you know you are doing a good job. If you don’t have it at home, we’ll be here to answer any questions and help you through the rocky times.

Does anyone have any experience with lactation aids? I decided to see a lactation consultant and she recommended one. Please see my latest blog for info. I would love to hear from you. Please respond to my profile, thank you!

1Byfaith – I continued until I felt I could go without it. Then I only ate it the week before and during my period. I would drop significately right before my period so I ate it to just make sure I had enough.
