gladek – Thanks! I just joined. I can’t believe some people. Seattle is a fairly hippy town and I have never received weird looks for feeding Kekoa but I know several of you have! It’s crazy that people think that breastfeeding is obsene.

To get my kids to drink from a sippy cup I would first give it to them without the stopper. It was a little messy but they learned fast that they could actually drink from the cup and not just chew on it. Then after awhile I put the stopper back in and they automatically sucked on it.

My son refuses bottle so when he was about to turn 5 months we introduced the sippy. I am rarely not with him but if I go out for an hour or two without him then his daddy gives him his sippy. He is REALLY good at it! He will be 6 months tomorrow!!!

I suggest if you supplement with a bottle, pump instead! Sometimes I just don’t feel like the milk is there for my little one so I give her a bottle and I pump. Most of the time i only get an ounce which would not be enough for her but at least I am trying to keep my supply up. Sometimes she will nurse on both sides and still be hungry so I give her a bottle then too.

I really couldn’t tell you what chart they were using…but my son gained a ton of weight his first 2 months of life, had a huge growth spurt around 12 weeks and then now it’s seemed to slow down. I remember them thinking he had a huge weight gain in the beginning and now it hasn’t been as much, but he’s completely healthy and hitting all milestones! He’s just a lean baby, not a super chunky one. All babies are different and grow differently, I think as long as you’re consistenly using the scale to weigh him after feedings and if your LO’s really eating 40 oz a day then the issue isn’t with you or your production or even with your child eating cuz obiously he is! I’m not sure what the answer is but supplementing formula or solids isn’t going help that much especially when you’ve worked that hard to ebf. Hope you find out what’s going on! Keep us posted!

I just had to share my good news. I was off work for 4 full days and was able to nurse my LO without pumping one time. I am back at work now and just had my morning pump & got 10oz! I have never pumped that much before. Nursing for four full days really boosted my supply!

mountainmama – I started a little bit of whole milk at 13months. Kekoa is 19months and has milk in a cup. I don’t pump or anything. He nurses when he wants but gets the cup during meals and snacks. When you do introduce it, go slowly. Some babies take better to it then others. Kekoa couldn’t have more then a couple ounces a day in the beginning. His tummy just didn’t like it.

Thanks Felicia – how much does your LO eat during the day? I was upset yesterday to find out that my little girl has only wanted about 3 oz from her second bottle, and when she falls asleep, my MIL feeds her the other 3 oz! 3 oz is about what I have been short, and what has been eating my supply and she knows this. I have asked her constantly to not feed the baby when she doesn’t want anymore. She was busy telling me how the baby was turning her head away and wouldn’t open her mouth, and how she ‘plugged it in’ when she fell asleep – and then she looked at me and realized what she was saying. My MIL is the typical over-feeder of everyone. I appreciate all the help she gives, but it makes me nuts. My hubby and I are trying to lose weight – and almost every morning we have to tell her that we don’t want the pancakes she’s packaged up for us to take to work, and in the evening she always is putting homemade poundcake and cookies in the diaper bag. She is a low-carb person so she doesn’t even eat it! I am going to have to have a talk with her before Maddy starts eating normal food.
