Is anyone having a problem with their lo bitting them. She doesnt have any teeth as of yet, but it feels like she has been gumming me for the past couple of weeks. I’m not sure how to get her to stop.

kirra:–I only bf from 1 breast all the time and we do both breast and formula. Has worked for us from week 1. Gives me the peace of mind knowing she’s getting enough AND she’s getting bm. 6 nursing sessions daily + 18-20 oz formula. If you feel guilty don’t do it, but if you’re ok with it then go for it. Like bri said, it’s your baby 🙂

Here’s a question, and please don’t berate me for asking: What is the rule about drinking alcohol while breastfeeding? My partner and I bought a special bottle of wine when we found out I was pregnant, but we haven’t opened it since we didn’t want to injure the fetus. We were told that some parents have a glass of champagne in the hospital to celebrate, but A/ we were concerned about the breast milk, and B/ he had to work the two days my baby and I were in the hospital, so we never did that. Now a month has passed, and I was thinking it might be a nice thing for Christmas Eve or even New Year’s Eve, but I don’t know the protocol. I’ve been pumping breastmilk, but how long to wait if I have a glass is the question. And it is still and ‘IF’ – I won’t do anything to celebrate that would jeopardize my child’s (or my) health.

DeeRod- Have you tried going to a quiet place and limit stimulation while nursing. He may not be wanting to slow down to nurse. Also if you are worried about him self weaning try nursing him before you offer his food. Food is only for practice anyways so if he eats alittle less because of nurse thats ok. Also you might can just spend a day nursing and skip some of his meals so maybe he will go back to nursing easier. Not sure about the period and ovulating because I have been in the small percent that has had my period from the get go 🙁 you could try marking it on a calender tho and see if it happens the same time.

taylin, I use the Medela Pump n Style and love it! I didn’t use it much the first 5 months, but now that I am working I use it twice a day/fie days a week. It does the job, so I prefer electric. If you are going to be at home and not have to pump often, you might want to get a hand held one which is less expensive. The medela pumps are about 300, but well worth it for me!

December- you could try an elimination diet to see what is causing your LO upset tummy if you still want him to get your milk.

M.M.Masi- Do you think you might be getting clogged ducts? I would try using a heat pad before you nurse and before you pump to pull the milk to the surface before you get going. Drawing out all the milk should help what ever the problem is. Hopefully.

kla2200: Breastmilk is thinner than formula so if you had a fast teat ( not a newborn teat) maybe it was coming out to fast and thats why he was restless? Formula is thicker so maybe it comes out slower? Just a thought. Ive read a few people on here say they just do night feeds and it works for a little while.

I just called my doc office and they said it would not cause weight gain but come on 7 pounds in a month. i did some reading on the internet and it said rapid weigh gain is a side effect. I think i will stay on it the rest of the month then go off it and see if there is a difference. My doc office said its the ONLY pill i can take too.

Hey, I thought I’d throw in my 2 cents. Evin has been ebf since he was 6 weeks old (slight formula supplement in the beginning due to bad advice from a pediatrician whom we decided to leave). My baby has been in the 6-12th percentile since he has been 4 months old. Here’s the thing, he’s happy, bright, attentive, has reached many milestones ahead of schedule, and full of energy. I worried and worried that I didn’t have enough milk but I finally just said screw it. My baby is FINE and I’m not going to be ruled by some book. I fed/feed him according to a schedule plus any other time he wants it and I can give it. I got sick of my ped hecklng me about it and I switched to another one who thinks my baby is perfect and cheers our breastfeeding along. We have so many other things to worry about as new mothers–dont’ let milk worries weigh you down. If your baby is peeing and pooing plenty, is happy, alert, and health, sit back and enjoy your time together.

kebler98- Yes, just about 3 Tbsp. of malt per glass of milk. Start out with one a day and see how your body responds. It used to take 12-24 hrs. for me to see a boost.

Bri: CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You must be so happy. I cant believe you got pregnant the first month! Well done.
Maybe a little girl for you this time? Im trying to decide if i should bite the bullet and go for baby number 4? My eldest is 16 this year ( i started REALLY young) so i better get a move on if im going to have one more.

You can’t express any milk until after the baby is born. Also, you should REALLY avoid nipple stimulation as it can sometimes cause labor to start and at 34 weeks, labor should be avoided!

Casen – You’re describing baby acne. Try some breastmilk on them and see if it helps.

anniemarie- at Tryn’s 6 mo check up she was only 14pounds too. She had gained 2 pounds since her 4 month check up so the doc was not worried.
