scarlet, steel cut oats are the more natural form of old fashioned oats. therefore they have different cooking instructions, u do soak them but when u cook them u make them stove top, kind of how u make rice (you’ll have to look up a recipe for exact time/amounts).

been to hospital all afternoon thankfully oliver just has normal breastfeeding jaundice and not the rare liver disease. He feeds constantly and i have been putting him in day light. Not sure what else to do to get rid of it.

2ndtimemommmy and Bri: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I can exhale and continue breastfeeding calmly again! My LO is giving plenty of soiled pampers and is gaining weight continually. Bri thanks for the list of things I can try. Now I have another reason to visit the health food store :)!

i use/used the medela bottles b/c my son never really seemed to have a problem and those were the most convenient to pump into.

I’ve never tried them butterflykisses sorry. We did have success with Ollie drinking out of a bottle last night. I went and bought the tommee tippee anti colic bottles, the one with the tube down the middle. And he drank 4 oz straight off. He must have got too much wind from the other I’d been using. And it was so lovely not having to chuck my breastmilk away.

Samzgirl- I’ve my period came back just 3 weeks after I stopped bleeding from giving birth nd I’ve had it every month since (lo is 5mths). Everytime I get my period my supply goes low and comes back up after . I don’t have much of a problem with him not getting enought before AF isn’t around he feeds from 1 side at a time and i pump the other so when shes here he just feeds off both. I’ve never tired doing anything to up my supply while on AF so I don’t know if he works.

lauraoct – The main book on the topic is Baby Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. Pretty much the doctor that coined the term although it’s been done in several cultures for thousands of years. Amazon has it for like $13 or something but I couldn’t find it in the local bookstores. Also, I believe it’s September when the new version comes out. I have the ‘older’ one for obvious reasons. really good book,

Thanks ladies for the suggestions. I was thinking about a book. Lily padz are breastfeeding pads. Got lanolin. I think I might be almost complete. Is there a book you all just love. There is always the LLL’s womenly art. APA has a guide as well. I’ve read so many and all have good points. I don’t know which one to get her. lately I’ve been reading the more political breastfeeding books which isn’t much help to a new mom. HAHA!

Illy – mine also cluster fed all evening. Nowadays it doesn’t matte how much I feed her in the evening, it doesn’t help her sleep longer. Too bad.

Kelley sounds like a hindmilk foremilk imbalance. Try block feeding her. 3 hours on one side before switching breast. Yes she can get full in 5 mins on one side. Babies with mothers who have a hindmilk foremilk imbalance can either be small ( my daughter 4 months 13 lbs) or very big ( my son 4 months 23 lbs). Also these babies are known to be snackers a few mins here and there are fine with them. My daughter is the same she only has 1 big feed in the am. Do a few Google searches on hindmilk foremilk imbalance or overactive letdown and you’ll find all the info you need. Good luck.

jpeanut503 – Most babies become efficient and start to only need a few minutes. Go with the flow. As long as your little one is still gaining weight and having plenty of wet diapers then don’t worry about how long he’s drinking. My first drank for an hour at a time. It was soo frustrating but his little brother drinks so darn fast that he never falls asleep at the boob which is nice when you want them out. HAHA! He drinks one side only and for about 5 minutes. He’s been doing that for months now. He’s just a little tank though and hoovers it down.

jeni-yep. i think just like adults eat out of boredom so do babes. plus it’s the easiest way to get your attention to stay on them. Isaac is also 14 months and I work full time so during the week he typically nurse two or three times a day but on the weekend especially if we stay in, I don’t even try to count the number of times he shows up just wanting a quick nibble.
