So just a little funny story to share… my older son is 9 years old, and was EBF for 3 months until I went back to work and lost my milk. Of course, he doesn’t remember it at all, but I thought in the normal course of life, he would know what breastfeeding is. When I was pregnant, I would occasionally mention breastfeeding, and he never questioned it. But when Braeden was about a week old, Damion finally asked me…’Mom, are you giving him a bottle under that blanket or something?’ (I did hide under a blanket at first, as I was a bit uncomfortable with my 9 year old staring at my boobs, but now I figure, it’s my house, I’m going to be comfortable!) Anyway, so I told him, ‘No, I’m breastfeeding him’ and he was still confused about how the baby was getting food. So I explained that just like mommy cows, human mommies can make milk for their babies too. He thought that was kind of cool, but has now taken to telling his friends that his mom is like a cow, because she can make milk…. haha!

LawsonsMom and HannahKay – I know you guys probably have read this suggestion on here before, but oatmeal seems to work great! My friend just very recently had such a low supply because her 3 month old was sleeping like 21 hours a day… She started eating oatmeal and organic oatmeal cookies every day and is now leaking breastmilk because her supply has increased so much! She was doubtful that it would work at first but now swears by it. I don’t know if it’s just a coincidence or not, but it’s worth a shot! Also drink lots of water. Good luck!

Thanks Bri. I’ve been feeding her even when she doesn’t want it! Or trying, anyways 🙂 She’s asleep, but I’m sort of hoping it’s not for the night so we can get some more nursing in. Crazy to think I WANT to not sleep well!

I am also pumping in a storage closet. 🙂 Our is the maintenance closet though. For the most part it works out fine, but every once in a while we will have one of the maintenance guys visit and try to get in. Most of them are pretty good about walking away when the door is locked and I will just get a ‘Sorry, forgot you used that as your office!’ when I come out. Once our ‘full-of-himself’ guy came and when he couldn’t get in I heard him going for his keys. I was yelling at him to just give me a couple of min and I would be done. He kept going for the keys. I yelled at him again and his response was ‘Well, is their a reason why I can’t get it in?’ WHAT? So many things going through my head to yell back at him! The big joke is that I am locking myself in the room to make private, long-distance phone calls. One of my co-workers made a comment in passing to my boss about how I must really need my privacy for those phone calls I was making, but couldn’t imagine that the reception would be better in the closet. Since none of our cells work in the building she thought that was a hoot. He just assumed that the cord going from the outlet outside the room into the room was my cell phone charger! We had to give him a really hard time about it, esp because he turned bright red when he realized what it was I actually doing! 🙂

I have gotten my period back at 6wks post with both of my boys. It stinks! We just use condoms as our birth control. We got preggy with Zach using them, but sex happens even less now than before that I figure we are fine as long as I pay attention to my cycle along with the condoms. Really, our two boys are pretty good forms of BC! Mom and Dad start to get too close and one of them causes interference!

2ndtimemommmy – I wouldn’t. There is always a risk of infection from the ink or needle. This could cause serious harm to you which could cause you not to be able to breastfeed. If breastfeeding is important to you then I just wouldn’t risk it. I’d wait until you’ve weaned. That being said, I’m sure you can I just wouldn’t.

Zoey refuses pacifiers…unless you count my boob! She had her four month shots yesterday…she’s still bitter. I got her home about 7 last night and she nursed/used me as a pacifier from then until about 12 today when we had to go out. Normally I try to entertain her in other ways but she’s developed this ear piercing scream and was hardcore using it all everning. So I figured she needed some mommy time and camped out on the couch with her.

Read the 2 month comments. I hate stupid.

GonnaB: GonnaB4: Like others have said; check into your state laws…8-10 hour without a break I think is a violation of FEDERAL law. My employer is very supportive and allows me break up my 1 hour lunch into four 15 minute segments. Oregon also requires two 15 mi. breaks, so I consider the extra time to set up and clean my pump as my 15 min breaks. If you plan on nursing long term, you will need to pump every 2-3 hours to keep your supply strong. Futhermore, most women can only express a few ounces at a time, and it can take several pumpings to obtain enough milk for just one feeding. I am pumping between 6 & 7 times per day only to be 4 ounces short. There is nothing harder than being a full time working mother who is still trying to breastfeeding…but it is well worth it for our little ones!

deeyore, its hard to say. how far away is the zoo? our zoo requires several highways and busy traffic so due to that i would say no in that there are higher chances of accidents and if there was an accident the likelihood of it being a bad one is high. if its just a calm route to the zoo and theyre just gonna walk around and enjoy it i dont really see a prob. the biggest fear would be a kid getting lost which depends on ur kid. i know i was nervous when i started letting my own parents take my daughter shopping with them but it turns out she behaves better with them and they usually end up having a great time.

I remember James went through a growth spurt at this age and thinking there was something wrong with my supply. Now Ollie who is 7 weeks tomorrow is doing the same. Been at mil this afternoon and he has fed pretty much all the time.
