My girl is 8 months and I don’ think I had a period. A week ago is had some color on the paper but not any real bleeding. It may have been a really really light period but I am not sure. Either way it went away thank God 🙂

Well ladies I’m about ready to just break down and cry! I think all my milk in the freezer is bad! I read up on the lipase thing and can’t think of anything else it would be…how completely heartbreaking that I will most likely be throwing away about 70 frozen bags! If that’s not bad enough I only have 4oz pumped from this morning for my son while he’s at daycare. My mom’s dropping off formula as an in case thing. I’m subbing today and hoping that I can go to his daycare during lunch to feed him and then go back after. I’m so upset right now! I’m not scheduled to sub tomorrow so I will spend the whole day getting ready for the following day. The wierd thing is that I’ve NEVER had my milk go bad early. It would stay the appropriate amount of time in the fridge before using and this smell never was there. And if it was I never noticed it. But it’s so bad it makes me want to puke! No way I can give that to him. More than ever I wish I was a sahm! However, I will NOT quit bfeeding! He may get a half and half bottle today but I will pump extra everyday now and be ready for my next subbing day! Ugh! How frustrating!

I forgot who I was talking to a while ago, but we were talking about the mothers milk tea and the taste. I was taking the Traditional Medicinal brand Mother’s milk tea and when I went to wal-mart to get more they were out. So I bought the Yogi brand nursing mom’s tea and it tastes much better than the other one. Just thought I would pass that along 🙂

mandarae- Are they drinking from a sippy yet? If not, I would give them a cup with water and a splash juice at their meal time. It sounds like they just need a little more fluid to make things more comfortable. Also, you could try prunes or apricot baby food.

kym, i think frozen milk is good for longer than 3 months, depending on what kind of freezer you use. i had a free can of formula from nestle. i used it one night in a fit of desperation to see if it would help him sleep through the night. didnt work, and i ended up wasting a $30 can of formula. i bought a small case of the premixed formula for emergencies. he wont eat it, it was a waste buying it, but at least i dotn have to throw it away. i can donate the cans

Brewer’s yeast tablets will give a boost in supply without the tummy issues that fenugreek can cause. 2-3 tablets 3x a day worked well. Also, being sick CAN cause a drop in supply…your body is working overtime trying to get you healthy, make milk and function. Just rest and take care, the supply will come back up. Also, beer will increase supply…any other type of alcohol decreased my supply. Drinking the beer right after a feeding gives the body time to process the alcohol so that bub doesn’t get any affects. Or a non alcoholic beer works too…

my daughter just turned 1 and I still take my prenatal vitamins. I guess it is more out of habit but they are supposed to be taken while nursing too. My little girl is a year old now and I would like to wean her to cows milk because I need to go on a diet and lose some weight but I cant do that while I am nursing her. I have EBF this whole time and havent even tried to start weaning her yet. But she only sips her milk in a sippy cup (not really drinks it) and she has no clue what a bottle is, so how do I get her to take more milk? Also she is not a great table food eater. She likes to throw her food off her high chair which frustrates me to no end! She likes some table food but for the most part loves jar baby food. I guess its a texture thing, i dont know. so how do I get her to take more cows milk, and eat more table food? I dont want to stop nursing her, but I really need to lose some weight 🙁

babydoll04, remember the more milk you remove the more it makes, i would pump between feedings to stimulate the breast and extract milk. i supplement in the beginning and it just slowed down my output

My lo already pinches me. One time I wasn’t paying attention while I was feeding him and his nails needed trimming, so when he did it, i grabbed his hand as a knee jerk reaction. he stopped nursing and looked at me like i was crazy. boy am i going to have trouble out of this kid as a teenager. i trimmed his nails right after that fed!

miami – Aside from Vitamin D, no vitamins are needed before 6 months (as per my pediatrician). And if your LO gets sunlight at all, even the Vitamin D is fine. After 6 months more of the nutrients should come from solids (especially iron) so if they are not getting many iron-fortified foods a vitamin comes highly recommended. Your pediatrician will prescribe one most likely. My son has been on the prescribed vitamin since 9 months and loves it. Its 1mL a day.

I’m 4.5 months pp and no period yet. I hope it stays away for a long time. As far as extended bfing I plan on asking when they weaned from a bottle. I figure that should queit a few up anyways.

It is sad and yes those stats are right. Most young moms are just assumed that they will formula feed. Breastfeeding takes work and time that medical proffesionals just don’t think young moms have. I know stupid but true. On the low income, WIC says they promote breastfeeding and will buy you a pump BUT if you go into the office and say you aren’t going to then they don’t try to tell you the benefits, they just hand out the formula. From experience from a friend, they give you more formula then you need so it’s completely free. Also, low income moms tend to work in environments that aren’t pumping friendly. Even if the McD’s manager was all for it it’s hard to get into a routine AND where will you…the bathroom?

krystaldawn- You will get better results soaking the oatmeal, but I get a boost to my supply just by eating regular oatmeal (old fashioned). Also if I notice a dip (during that TOM or after vigorous exercise) I often just drink a beer or make a smoothie with malted milk powder.
