Okay, I need some advice. Sadie sleeps with us and is EBF. When she’s hungry in the middle of the night she nurses, we both usually fall asleep that way. Now people are telling me it is bad to do that, it will cause bottle rot when her teeth come in and cause her to not want to sleep alone. I don’t want to cause any harm, but sleeping with us has been a miracle, we all sleep all night and are quite refreshed in the am. She sleeps so well she often only dozes throughout the day. And when I go back to work I’ll only be able to spend nights with her, so I’d love to keep her in the bed!!

Kayvee- p.s. The first time Augustin clapped: he had just finished nursing, was super full and ‘milk drunk’, looked up at me and clapped. Hilarious. Now, when I ask him, ‘Auggie, do you want to nurse?’ he gets a big smile and crawls over to me, nuzzling my chest. My husband watches from above and behind saying, ‘He NEVER smiles like he does when he’s nursing.’ It truly is beautiful, but can take some effort. It’s SO worth it!

I need advice please. My baby is 12 days old. She is eating about every 1/2 hour for 10 mins. Is this normal? This has only happened for the past few days but I do not know what to do. I try to get her to eat longer but she wont.

I asked my pedi. about comfort nursing, my LO does it too. His answer was, ‘you only spoil a child when you don’t hold them accountable for their actions. What behavior are you going to hold a four month old accountable for?’ If you are meeting their needs, whatever they may be, you are teaching them trust and confidence. Comfort nurse away. I try to first to give her a blankie, or something else that she likes. If that doesn’t work, out comes the faithful nipple:)

For those of you that had to stop eating dairy for you LOs to feel better, at what age could you start eating dairy again? My son is 7 ½ months old and I miss dairy so much but I don’t want to start eating it again if it will upset his tummy.

mybabysurprise – my LO did the EXACT SAME THING when he was about that age. It hurt so much & was quite annoying BUT eventually they stop. When my LO clamps down on my nipple now I say NO or STOP very firmly. Believe me they are smart. They understand.

Growth spurt 🙂 It’ll be over soon. Hang in there. It’s totally exhausting, but usually short lived. If it doesn’t ease up in the next week or so I would recommend trying something to boost your supply a little. Drink some eggnog (seriously) or a beer or eat some Malt-o-Meal.

I read that Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek paired up work better than individually and with the Fenugreek you really need to smell like maple syrup or you are not getting enough. The bigger you are the more you may need. I know I was taking like 15 pills a day.

You’d think that after almost 8 months I would have this down pat, but I now have what appears to be a blister forming on my nipple, ugh 🙁 I’m pretty sure it’s caused by a tooth coming in, the other side hurt horribly just before her first tooth came, but wow does it ever hurt! I can see why women are tempted to skip sides when they have issues, it HURTS! Can’t wait for it to get better!

HannahKay – Definately normal, even for those that aren’t breastfeeding. Your hormones are just coming down from pregnancy. But it’s not over yet, when you wean there will be a whole new emotional roller coaster. It’s ok to cry, it feels good sometimes. Just remember you are doing great with your little one. Keep going!

MyBabySuprise – I’ve heard and been told never to use weight lose programs while breastfeeding, especially since you pump. Pumping is hard enough and then to add the extra strain of not having enough food. I suggest eliminating all crap from your diet and taking Mason for evening walks. Now that the weather should be turning it should make that easier. Do sit ups with him on you tummy. Use him as a weight, he may even think it’s fun. Do push ups with him under you so you can give kisses each time you go down. HAHA!! I’ve been doing that but with the added bonus of a toddler on my back! I’ve lost 45 lbs in two months!! It just takes time. Remember, it took 9months to put it on, it may take 9months to take it off. It’s also why I encouraged so many of the women on our weekly page to watch what they ate while pregnant, it makes it easier afterwards. I gained 80lbs with my first and didn’t want to repeat it. I loved how I was still active the day I gave birth….even with an elephant inside me!
