Its not fair but its sooo much easier to lose your supply then get it back, but it can be done! There have been loads of stories of people who stop breastfeeding and then start up again weeks or months later.

soulmama Unfortunately, dieting while breastfeeding can lower your supply. I still have pounds that I would like to lose but I’m waiting until I wean Kekoa. The best diet while breastfeeding is to stay away for soda and sugar. Eat the right foods but more calories then you would by dieting. I’ve lost 70lbs and would love to lose another 50 but that is a dream. HAHA! I’m back to my pregnancy weight but would like to be in better shape before I get pregnant with number 2. Good Luck!

cherub – Yup, I’m still feeding. Kekoa is 15months now and still feeding fairly often. First thing in the morning, I pump at 9, feed at lunch, pump at 3, feed when we get home from work/school and before bed. He was sleeping through the night but lately (molars coming in) he’s been getting up once and wanting to nurse. We both love it and don’t want to stop but I’ve been making a weaning plan. I think this coming month I’m going to stop my afternoon pump, then the following month stop the morning pump. Then he will be feeding four times. Then I will stop the afternoon feed, the morning, then lunch and finally night. I think around 20months Kekoa will be completely weaned. I definately want him weaned by age 2.

Thanks guys for being the support i need. Everyone just says put her on the bottle everytime i have a problem and there have been a lot of problems. But i have been able to overcome every one of them and it just takes a few encouraging words which lucky for me i get from you girls.
I pumped last night and only got 40mls from 2 pumping sessions but i figure if there is some milk there i havent lost it all and i can easily increase it over the next few days. I cannot believe how it felt to stop so suddenly and the emotional side of breastfeeding. It felt like i was giving her up for adoption or something and every instinct i had was screaming at me that i should be feeding her. Everytime i got a letdown i would cry or fight back tears. It is so much more than just feeding. I guess we are wired like that so we do feed our babies for as long as possible. Ill keep you all posted on how my supply is going and i am trying everything i can think of and read on campimamas page. Any other suggestions i would appreciate.. Im hoping to be back to exclusive breastmilk in about a week. If it takes longer ill be patient but i want to get her off this poison formula that has unsettled her so much. Its great for a back up but doesnt work for us for every feed thats for sure. Thanks again for all your comments. It has really helped us get back to feeding.

I think I had a period at the beginning of the month…? Had brown spotting on my pantiliner for a day, nothing for 2 more days then brown on the paper for a day. DS is 4 months on Sunday.

I also struggle to pump the 9 oz I need for the next day. I eat the oats and drink nearly a gallon of water. I think that more than anything the oats make me more confident LOL They’re tasty and healthy, so I’ll keep it up 🙂 DH and I decided that rather than stressing about it I will get what I get and then we add formula to make it enough. Andrew gets enough from me when he nurses, so I’m not all that concerned. At least he’s getting 90% bm, right?

Thanks Bri. I cant even get her to feed at all from me. She sucks for a few seconds which is excruciating then she comes off and cries. I did try the firmly telling her no and ending the feed and she has een biting for over a month and still find it funny no matter what i do. I even tried to ignore it. Then she just tries to leanin to bite me a 2nd time. Im just feeling like i have had every single problem and when everything starts to go ok somethng else happens. Now i have the split nipple, biting, refusing to feed and mastitis it just makes me think i cant keep going. Plus i have to take the motilium 3 times a day just to have a supply. I am just trying to convince myself to be k with 9 months and not the year i had hoped for.

I need major breastfeeding advice! With my last child B/F hurt so bad I pumped exclusively for 12 months..it was a huge pain, this baby I was determined to B/F and not pump, but I have ONE NIPPLE the baby almost refuses. When she does take it she will ONLY take it in the football position and she is sucking the top raw If I lean back she lets go of the latch so I have to start over and stay hunched over. It feels like she is cutting the nipple off with a knife. She takes the other breast with no problems & no pain..but it hurts so bad on the one I am about to give up and go to the pump again and she is only 2 weeks old. Does anyone have any suggestions, advice or have you experienced this before?? I have been using the lanoline and air drying the nipple. Can you please message me on my page? I barely have time to pee let alone check thru all the posts. 🙁

angie2008- from what I understand its supposed to be 12-24 hours. I drank some this morning at 6:30 and got an extra 1.25oz at my 3:30 pump. Don’t know if it was the malted milk or not but I’ll take that extra.

bedrest, yeah, my lo goes through phases of wanting to nurse all day and night, and it’s so hard because you can’t always tell just how much she’s getting, hey. I’d hate to just leave her crying for more until the next ‘feed’! I’m a great believer in demand feeding, but that’s really hard if she wants it ALL the TIME! 🙂

I have a question…… I weighed Emerson and she has only gained 20 grams in the past month. She certainly doesnt look skinny or sick so i know she is fine but i was wondering what age they stop gaining approx. 100 grams a week? She turns 1 in 2 weeks. She has also just cut her first 2 molars and was off her food for a week. She still took her breastmilk though. Would my milk maybe not be nourishing her now?

kelly-roo: My daughter never ever took more than 4 ounces at a time. She has just finished breastfeeding as she turned 1 last week and even up to the end she would never take more than 4 ounces. Breastfed babies dont drink as much breastmilk as formula as it is concertrated and they dont need as much of it as formula. She would also onlt take 5 minutes to feed. Its totally normal. Your baby will let you know if she is hungry and if she is content and happy with plenty of wet nappies then she is getting plenty. =)

I need help… My son is 11 weeks old and is breastfed. His poo’s were always very loose and seedy just like it should be. However for the past 2 weeks he has only gone maybe once a week and it is so thick that it seems like he has a hard time getting it out. Why did it change consistancy like that or is it normal as he grows and eats more?

That’s what I mean. I hear either that moms won’t co-sleep because of Dad, Dad sleeps in another room or baby sleeps on the outside so Dad won’t roll on them. I’ve never had that worry.

amber-d – Could be a comfort thing also if your LO has only ever nursed. Try having someone hold a blanket or something that smells like you while giving the bottle. You may have to shop around for one your baby likes. The only one my son ever took to were the ones that came with the MEdela pump.
