MickyG – Be careful what you take. My doctor said sorry last winter when Kekoa was real little. I was able to take tylenol and that’s it. This was just on the Today’s show as well. They said pregnant and nursing moms should stay away for all cough meds. My sister sent me an email the other month about robitussen being bad for women in general. I can’t remember what it actually said because I don’t use the stuff anyways but something about it raising blood pressure in women and children. Definately talk to your doctor or pharmasist as least.

I just found out my 9 month old baby girl is allergic to antibiotics. She had to have it this week for the first time due to a sore throat and ears and she got 10 times worse and has cried for the past 3 days constantly. Poor little thing. I figured it out that it could only be that this morning and the Dr confirmed it so she is off them now and starting to feel better. I have had to cuddle her to sleep for the past 2 nights. Also after every single feed she is biting my nipple. Not hard biting but nipping and it is on both sides after every feed. As soon as she is done. I use my agry voice and tell her no and she smiles. I even pointed me finger tonight and told her not to bite and she bit my finger!!!! TWICE So cheeky. I dont know what to do to stop her, Stopping the feeding doesnt bother her as she is done anyway when she nips and my angry voice and putting her down makes her think its funny. Any other suggestions to try and stop it before she really clamps down hard and takes my nipple off? I really want to get to 12 months but if this biting continues what do i do?

owensbaby09 – Respect goes both ways and unfortunately the scale are tipped right now. Breastfeeding moms get harrassed everywhere they go. They can’t feed their children without glares or even rude comments. I personally have not had any comments, Thank God! But I know people who have. People that have been told it’s disgusting to breastfeed or that it’s a form of child abuse. People actually believe that breastfeeding is a form of pedaphilla. There is a reason there are laws to protect breastfeeding moms and why there are campaigns out there for breastfeeding awareness. On the other hand I know a guy that was lectured in the grocery store for having formula in his cart. This lady had no idea why he was buying it. He happened to be buying formula because his wife was no longer living and therefore couldn’t breastfeed. Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they think is right. As long as it’s what’s best for your family then that is what’s right.

angie – Cough meds are dangerous for little ones. Most doctors don’t recommend taking it or giving it to your baby.

Just curious if anyone knows.. What age do we not have to sterilise the bottles and breast pump? My frined said if its for breastmilk you never have to sterilise and at 10 months she doesnt need it all sterilised at all now. I think i will keep going till she is one but does anyone know ?

i agree with the milk spraying being messy! at 10 months, im still spraying. if he pulls off during my letdown, its EVERYWHERE! he will play in the spray and make it even worse lol. i still leak, but only on te side hes not eating from, or if i go awhile inbetween feeds and i get a letdown.

erin b- def. a growth spurt. just nurse, nurse, nurse through it. you don’t want to give cereal too soon…especially if you aren’t sup. with formula. Bf babies have what’s called a virgin gut and aren’t ready for cereal until they’re older. If baby was losing weight, you might have to consider it or if they had reflux etc. but if it is just a growth spurt it won’t last too long and you’ll be back to ‘normal’ soon. Also, food is meant for babies that can eat off a spoon. I have never been a fan of putting it in a bottle….sorry if that offends, but if baby is ready for food, they will take it from a spoon.

I guess it is a bad idea to use breast feeding as birth control!

Rissasmommy – My LO is 6 weeks and the pacifier WORKS WONDERS!!! At first he would not take it, he would spit it out, gag, make horrible faces & scream BUT I tried it everyday. I would put it into my bra so it was warm & smelled like me & then just pop it into his mouth & distract him. Before long he started keeping it in for a few seconds, then minutes & now he loves it. It calms him, entertains him, it even makes him fall asleep on his own. I made it my mission for him to take a paci & it worked. I say, every baby will take one if the mother is persistant enough & consistantly encourages it. It has been a lifesaver for me. Good luck!! Oh and he only takes Nuk pacis (i tried 5 different kinds!)

I have not received any bad comments yet. I bf around my parents and my side of the family all the time. We don’t see my in laws too often so I have not had the opportunity to bf around them yet. We are going to visit them on Sunday so we will see how it goes. I have on bf’d at church. They have a ‘cry room’ where you can take your lo and still see and hear the service and I bf’d in there. I have seen other moms do it too. If we go to an appt or anything like that I take a bottle of bm. But I have bf’d in our truck tons of times.

I can’t believe that Brandon is 3 months old today. He weights 14lbs and 1oz and is 23 1/4 inches long. I am so blessed to be able to bf him. I did not even think that we could make it this far EBF. I am planning on going for a year and I am sure the comments will come. I am excited because my sil is pregnant and she is due in Dec. She is planning to bf for the first time and she has been asking a ton of questions. I am glad that I can help her and the knowledge that I have mostly comes from this forum.

ammalouliz-Some people belive no alcohol, some people even encourage moms whose supply is a bit low to have one drink now and again. My son is one year this week, and I’ve have several nights that I’ve had one beer after he went to bed.
Your milk is just fine in the morning. Maybe talking to a local lactation consultant would ease his mind?
