Will my child outgrow the symptoms of GERD?

jennifer.. my son was on nutramigen. We just switched to Good Start and he’s also doing great on that. The choking is the GERD, not the formula.

My baby was diagnosed with gerd yesterday… What is a formula that has worked for everyone? My son takes Enfamil lipil and He spits up all the time, and chokes on it. So, I guess I need to change his formula..

Hello ladies, I want to thank all of you that responded, you all were a big help. I took Cadence to the doctor yesterday and she prescribe him Zantac and we changed his formula to alimentum. I have already seen a big difference, last night and today he has been so calm, and he is eating like a normal baby should for his age. I am so relieved and I am really happy that the doctor didn’t brush it off as colic. I am hoping that this will do the trick for him because reflux is truly a miserable thing for the baby and the parents. Thanks again!

My daughter was diagnosed with GERD at two months old after many trips to the ER and doctors office. First they gave her Zantac, that didn’t work…then they gave her Prevacid…that helped a little. The formula side of it was the part that made the most difference….first she was on Similac Advanced, she was taken off of that and put on Alimentum. The Alimentum didn’t show any signs of improvement. I went over her pediatrcians head and made an appointment with a Pedi GI doctor at the Boston Children’s Hospital. The Pedi GI put her on Neocate. Since then, she is comfortable, no vomitting, no arching and is a very happy baby!!

If your baby isn’t getting relief from the current treatment…remember you are the parent and make the calls!! Be persistant because you are your baby’s voice!! It worked for me and my little one!

My son was diagnosed with silent reflux 2 days ago. I’m happy we figured out the problem because at least it’s a place to start. He was put on Zantac 3 times a day. It seems to be helping because I have my sweet, happy baby back, but it’s hard to tell bc he just had his 4 month shots so he could be calm and sleepy because of that. I just pray the Zantac works and we don’t have to keep trying to figure out a medicine that works. It is so painful for me to watch him scream in pain through every bottle. He eats as much as a 1 week old baby and he’s 4 months. That’s awful. Soon we will start to really see him lose weight if we don’t get this cleared up. Best wishes to you mothers that are dealing with this as well.

Hello- I believe that my baby has silent reflux, he cries during feedings, looks like he is in pain, arches his back and doesn’t eat that much like he should, this goes on every night and now during the day as well. It is really frustrating to see him like this. 2 weeks ago I told the doc but he brushed it off as colic, but I know it’s not just colic, the poor baby can’t eat, I am worried he will start losing weight. So I am going to take him to the doctor again this week, and hopefully we can get something to help him. I now dread feedings when I should be enjoying every moment with him, and it really bothers me to see him in pain. This is a horrible thing for babies to go through and I feel for you other mothers going through the same thing.

Our pediatrician first said that my son just had colic as well. I didn’t agree but I thought I’d give it another week because I knew we’d be back in a week for his shots anyway. I’m glad I pressed on the issue because he definitely has reflux. As the mother, we know when something just isn’t right with our babies. Keep going back to the doctors until you are satisfied and your baby is back to normal.

I have medication questions. Alright my son in 5 months old and we found out he has silent reflux when he was 2 months old (after an upper gi). So he started out on prevacid 1/2 tablet a day and that helped but he would still be fussy during the night and hardly slept. Then we switched him to prevacid 15 mg 1/2 in am and 1/2 in pm. It helped but still no sleeping. Next we added zantac 1ml 2x’s a day. Fussing pretty much went away but still not sleeping. Then last week we went to a specialist and they took him off of the prevacid and zantac and placed him on Zegerid. That medication did horrible things like made him throw up (2 plus oz of milk) and he screamed for 10 min. after I gave it to him. It came to the point where he would spit the meds. out. Now the doctor wants to put him on Nexium. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with Nexium. I read that it isn’t FDA approved for children under 12. Also, I heard that Nexium and Prilosec are very simular. Our insurance won’t cover any of these meds and it is getting expensive to keep changing them. I am starting to think that the meds. are all the same and I am just going to have to be happy with the small relief my son gets. It is just so hard when he isn’t sleeping and I also have a 2 year old I am trying to keep up with. Also we have taken him to the chiropractor and used probotics. If you have any other ideas let me know. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Well I was so thrilled that my baby seemed to be doing great with zantac and his very expensive hypoallergenic formula, but now all of a sudden 2 days ago his symptoms have come back along with throwing up, which he never did before. I am so frustrated, I don’t understand why the reflux stopped and now it’s back again all of a sudden! So now I will call the doctor and let her know that his symptoms are back with a vengeance.
The throwing up thing is horrible, I was sitting there while feeding him and then all of a sudden huge amounts of formula came right back up all over the baby and me, this has happened twice now! uuughh I want to cry, again!!

Well my son’s reflux is kicking my butt, I am so mentally and physically exhausted!!! To make matters worse he has Sandifers Syndrome. My son is in pain and I feel very frustrated that I can’t take his pain away. He refused the bottle all day long today, he finally drank 4 oz before bed. I hope he gets some relief soon!!!!

Dayday- it’s called Sandifers Syndrome. It goes hand in hand with AR. Once the AR is gone, so will the Sandifers.

if your child is having this issue, or you are told its this dont be satisified with just one thing. Check more things out. I was told my daughter just had acid reflux and i let it go on with meds not working until one day the first of MAY of this year…she had this ACID reflux spell and she turned blue and passed out and stopped breathing…turns out its been seizures all along. so if you got a hunch its more than they say it is DONT be afraid of doing more tests it will be worth it in the long run…I PROMISE!
