Hey ladies. I am new to this message board, but not to the site. In fall 2007 my 20 week ultrasound showed that my son had an SUA. My husband and I were told so many scary things (it is likely that your child may have Downs Syndrome and even a chromosomal issue non-compatable with life…)and given so many statistics (your chid has gone from the 15th percentile to the 35th in weight, but his head is measuring on the large side which could mean downs…) that we didn’t really know what to think. After 15 ultrasounds, visits to specialists, countless NSTs, and a day and a half of labor – our son was born a ‘hearty’ 7.5 lbs. (which was NEVER apparent in our ultrasounds…they were way off!) and healthy as can be!! He is now a perfect 9 month baby boy…I was a person who really enjoyed seeing success stories when I looked for ANY information on my unborn child’s ‘condition’…so hopefully this can be (at least a momentary) help to bring peace of mind to any moms who are struggling with this crazy Single Umbilical Artery journey!

    Hi Ladies
Isla Elizabeth was born Jan 11th, 2009 weighing 8lbs 13 oz…..she is perfectly healthy except for a little bit of Jaundice!!!!!! I asked the delivery DR at the hospital if he had seen this a lot…he told me he hasn’t seen a baby born with this that has had any serious problems…usually just a little small….so maybe they should change the books and internet!!!!! Good luck to everyone else waiting for their angels!!!!

Well…she’s almost 6 weeks and yesterday she weighed in at 12 lbs 1 oz!!!! so I guess her feedings are going better than I expected…..I still have to supplement sometimes…when she gets ravenous!!!! Courtenay and Isla glad your princesses are doing well, Ryan is 11 weeks now we’re getting him weighed tomorrow but 2 weeks ago he was 11lb 5oz’s I’m expecting him to be over the 12lb more this time. Ryan still doesn’t ahve a schedule either and has regressed to eating 4oz’s every 2-4 hours, he was eating 5oz’s every 4 hours, he can be so frusrating at times but I guess that comes as the motherhood package. Hope eveyone else is doing well. x

I haven’t left a message in this section for a while. Just wanted to let everyone know that Katelyn was born on March 14, 2009, 7 1/2 weeks premature. She is in the NICU for about a month, but she is doing beautifully. She is exceeding all of the doctors expectations. They say babies with SUA (1A1V) tend to be on the small side. She was born at 32 weeks 4 days gestation and weighed in at 4 lbs. 1 oz. The doctors say that her size is amazing for her age and it has given her a real advantage. So for all those women out there who read everything online and worry needlessly, try not to. Taking good care of yourself is the most important thing. Even babies born very early like Katelyn can defy all the odds so have faith in yourselves and believe that your babies can be healthy too. I have uploaded new pictures on my profile.

    Hello there-

I am 23 weeks pg with #3. Today I learned about my SUA. At first I sobbed, because my nurse said the best info should come from the perineonatal specialist. Luckily, I have a great relationship with this office, and they got me in tomorrow am.

…so one, I am scared and working towards being optimistic.

two…sick baby or healthy baby, i want to do what is best.

Moms…did you treat your pregnancy any different?
For thoese with early babies, did you get induced or did it happen naturally?
I ready pic and epis are dangerous? Feedback?

This is just the begining of my questions, but your help will be greatly appreciated.
