I’m 22 weeks and about 3 weeks ago I found out I have SUA. The docter called me at work and I felt so sad. Of course got on the internet because I wanted to know how this would effect me and the baby. The docter said that the results for birth defect was good and I shouldn’t worry. She just wanted more ultrasounds to see how baby was growing. Everything on the internet is negative and I worry everyday that my son will be born with some complications. He kicks like crazy and was bigger than expected at my ultrasound. I’m praying all will be well but I can’t stop thinking my son will have some birth defect. I pray everyday. I hope to hear from others about this.

    Hello Ladies
Well….I was in your position last year…and I did a lot of worrying and crying when I read the internet…..My daughter is now 11 weeks…15lbs and two feet tall…she has no issues!!!! She laughs and talks (baby talk) ….she is alert and very active…she was born 8lbs 13oz at 39 weeks….my OBGYN was excellent and she said she was more concerned over my BP than SUA…..if your U/S is ok……your baby will be fine…Please try and enjoy the pregnancy…I wish I would have….

I found out last friday that my baby has 1A1V. My baby girl is measuring 2 days smaller than she should, I am having an ultrasound to look at her heart on the 29th. I also have a blood clotting disorder that causes my body to reject the pregnancy so I have to give myself shots of Heparin (blood thinner). And to add on to that I was diabetic before I got pregnant so I also take 3 shots of insulin a day making it 5 shots a day. The doc says the blood disorder has nothing to do with 1A1V. I have lost two pregnanies early before now and this is the furthest I have ever made it in a pregnancy (20 weeks) I am trying to say positive, I am not researching any of this on the internet, I am so thankful to you ladies that have posted your sucess stories on here. Thank you, thank you thank you… It has helped me stay positive through the stress of all the tests…

    Hello ladies-

I am happy to say, after two weeks of crying and not sleeping, I finally have peace. I have heard from two specialists and my personal doctor, whom I trust fully, SUA is “a variation of normal”, and unless my baby showed OTHER signs of abnormalities not to worry. I have a big 1lb5oz 25week old baby that moves all over and is growing at a perfect rate. She will still take all the necessary preemptive testing and I will be monitored in the end, but she says all SUAs are treated this way. I will have two more growth scans, one at 28 and one at 32. I will have stress tests twice a week starting at 36 weeks. I am a fairly intelligent person, but is seems that even with all the “right” data sitting in front of you all you can do is get scared and read the bad. All of the studies on the internet of things being wrong, hugely were studies of babies born with other abnormalities and the SUA was found. I trust that this is JUST how my umbilical cord formed, and my baby is growing and thriving.
Don’t get me wrong…I am doing all other things to ensure a healthy pregnancy. I am watching my weight gain. I am resting as much as possible and I started working to increase my oxygenation. I take water aerobics twice a week and yoga once a week. I can control how I feel about all of this – and my emotions drive my baby’s emotions, too. So keep positive, take care of yourselves and don’t worry. Unless there is something else visible at this time, I truly believe our healthy pregnancies are fine.
I will keep you posted on my exams and scans. Let’s get through this together.

My Katie was also diagnosed with SUA early on in my pregnancy. I was really concerned with it so I had an amnio. It turned out she has a minor chromosome deletion called 18P. Needless to say it caused me a great deal of worry. I just wanted to let all you ladies know that just because your baby is diagnosed with something, it doesn’t mean he/she won’t be just fine. Katie came 2 months early, not related to her conditions. I had pneumonia and pleurisy twice and because I was so sick, my water broke early and I deveoped an infection. Regardless, she weighed in at a hefty 4 lbs. 1 oz. which is great for a 32 weeker. She spent 20 days in the NICU and was released to us a 4 days before my 40th birthday. She is perfect and beautiful and has no major health conditions. She eats like a champ and has doubled her birth weight in 2 months. There are pictures on my profile if you’d like to take a look. I’m so proud of her. Just have faith and don’t read too much on the internet, it can scare the hell out of you sometimes. Trust your doctors and your own instincts. Everything I read told me babies with SUA can be born small and with all kinds of problems. From talking with other mothers who’ve had babies with this condition, that is not the norm. Just wanted to share a story with a great outcome. Good luck to all of you and to your little babies. They bring such incredible joy.

Grandma Bee, as long as they can see two kidneys in the ultrasounds now there shouldnt be any further problems. my daughters kidneys were checked every ultrasound when i was preg with her and a week after she was born she had the follow up ultrasoundon her kidneys and everything was perfect as expected. kidney and urinary problems are the most common complication with SUA since the cord deals with the removal of waste from the baby and thats what we are missing; one of the waste cords. good luck to all of you.

hello ladies, i have 7 weeks to go and so far all my scans have been positive as far as not finding any abnormalities with my baby. i have one more scan due at 36 weeks amd am now just counting down the days now till i can hold my little girl. anyway, i didnt have an amnio when it was offered at 26 weeks and was just wondering if they did any tests to the baby after the baby is born, just to make sure?? or do they just do the normal tests that they do on all newborns??

emma, they run blood work and tests on all newborns, i dont think journey had any extra tests however she did have an extra hearing test since they lost the results of the first one (she passed both) and she did get an ultrasound on her kidneys a week after she was born just to make sure everything was fine and it was.

Well I had my docters appointment on Monday. Baby was doing fine and all was normal. I went for my level 2 ultrasound and he still has a single umbilical cord and you could see a very small white spot on his heart. Docter told me not to worry that all was good and he wouldn’t be checking for it anymore. He didn’t ask if I wanted any genetic counseling or an amnio. I’m going to request an amnio just to be sure. I love my child already but I just want to make sure he is ok. Everything is measuring on time but that doesn’t really say anything. He’s very active and has no other problems. Well I’ll keep everyone informed about my little man and please keep me informed.

Hello, i have had my last growth scan today, im 35 + 5 weeks pregnant. all’s well with the baby, shes weighing approximatley 6 lbs 10 oz, which im happy about as i still have 30 days to go. nothing was spotted due to the SUA condition which is even better . they said she was above the average growth rate, so the SUA hasnt affected her size. so i just have the big count down now, im so excited and cant wait to meet her. just thought i would let you all know xxx

    Hello all…
I am trending a little small, 40% to weight at week 30. I am going to the doc today. All vital organs are great and AOK…so I am not really worried about size. That can be made up in a week. I will keep you posted. 10 weeks left!
…Ladies…anyone have pit for other pregnancies and worried about using it this time?
