Week 31

Your baby is continuing to grow each week that you remain pregnant. Your baby’s crown-to-rump length is nearly 11.2 inches and total length is approximately 18 inches. Your baby weighs approximately 3.5 pounds at this point. Your uterus is about 4.4 inches above your bellybutton and continues to get larger. An average weight gain at this point is between 21 and 27 pounds. The weight that you gain is made up of your baby, placenta, blood supply, uterus, breasts, fat, water storage and amniotic fluid.

Because the ligaments and muscles supporting the small of your back relax and loosen in order to get ready for childbirth, your back may be aching from now on. There is usually nothing that can be done to prevent backaches, only to make them more comfortable. Many women get heartburn during these last few weeks of pregnancy because the oversized uterus leaves less room for the stomach and the contents within the stomach. Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help relieve the discomforts of heartburn.

This week marks an incredible milestone in your baby’s lung development. Before now, the air sacs and branches in your baby’s lungs were present but not functional. The lungs were not able to inflate properly. However, now there is surfactant being produced in your baby’s lungs. Surfactant prevents your baby’s lungs from collapsing outside of the uterus and the baby is able to take in air and breathe properly. The fetal ear is almost completely developed both inside and out. Your baby can hear your voice and other familiar sounds that she will recognize after birth. Your baby is putting on white fat under the skin and the skin’s color is pink instead of red at this point. Your baby’s fingernails have grown to the end of her fingers and she may scratch herself while she is in the womb.

31 weeks tomorrow! 9 weeks left if I go the full 40 weeks! I'm hoping I do not have him early at all. I am so unprepared right now! I have to get the room painted! I bought the paint, but it has been so hot and humid that I have not been able to paint it yet. I need to get the crib put together...I finally washed up the clothes yesterday. I have them sorted and folded. I have a bunch of clothes, so I should actually be set on all of that stuff. I am so excited to have that almost completed. He is going to have a pretty good wardrobe. Definately set...I just need blankets for him. I only have 2 from the girls that are gender neutral. I am sewing up a crib blanket for him, but I know I will want at least 2 more thick blankets. I bought some receiving blankets for him. I have burp cloths and towels. I had to get different changing table covers since I had pink girly ones. I also had to get boy crib sheets. It is crazy how much stuff you need for a baby. I feel like it is my first baby because of everything I have needed for him! I am working on getting all of the "big kid" toys out of the room that the baby will be in. I didn't realize my 2 year old accumulated so much stuff already! The baby proofing is going to have to wait until baby is actually here. I have my work cut out for me. This baby needs to stay in as long as absolutely possible. All this preperation for one little boy. I guess having all this stuff to do isn't so bad...It is better than having everything done and waiting...

I have a moses basket for baby too. I don't know why I need to do all this now, but at least it will be done. Lol! I am going to have a harder time trying to get my 2 yr old to sleep by herself since I'm a sucker for her when she says "I want to sleep with you mamma..." I have Co slept with each of my babies for at least the first 3 months. Usually turned into a year. This little girl was supposed to be my last, so I was happy when she wanted to snuggle with momma. Sciatica pain is horrible! I had that with 2 and 3 really bad, I haven't felt it with this pregnancy yet. It's good you have family to get things for your little girl! I know we don't need much for the baby. I washed and went through it all and figured out that we are set for clothes. For the first year! My cousin might have to keep all the stuff she set aside for me since I am too impatient to wait for the stuff!

I never co slept with any of mine till over a year never co slept with youngest as always had middle so not much of an issue just will need cot at some point for baby so 2 year old has to be ready for bed at some point I think I actually have everything for baby now need some more nappies and little bits like that but nothing big I find packing bags for hospital harder but don't want to leave it to late this time just incase I don't get chance to pack

Are there any things you bring to the hospital that you wouldn't want to be without? I need to pack my bag. I packed some things for baby like the going home outfit, a couple swaddling blankets, burp rags, the little mittens and socks and a hat. I don't need to bring diapers and wet wipes since the hospital provides those. I need to wash up the car seat and find a car seat cover.

No not really I suppose it's just night clothes, towel toiletries for myself and then babies bits I tend to sleep when baby sleeps I find hospital tiring when I'm there
